let me tell you about the time i ALMOST DIED.
okay okay, that was a little bit dramatic.
to die in this situation, i would have had to:
a) rent the apartment above the marshall st. cafe
b) been home when this white SUV smashed into the building
c) been standing up against the front wall of the apartment
i realize that is a lot of criteria, maybe it wasn’t QUITE a brush with death. regardless, i was amazed when i saw people talking about this and had to go out and see it (and photograph it) for myself.
you see, several years ago, my friend ian and i were trying to get this apartment and it got rented by someone else before we had the chance to make our move. now i’m living in the most amazing apartment ever and this guy doesn’t have a wall. thank goodness for fate, right?
so the story is that a VCU police car smashed into this white SUV during a power outage on saturday when the traffic lights were out. the SUV went careening right into the corner of this building, bringing a main support down and basically collapsing the entire front wall of the building.
crazy, right? i kinda sorta in a roundabout way could have DIED! (okay, not really)
fortunately, no one else died either. all the car occupants had non-life-threatening injuries and the cafe was thirty minutes from opening and the girl who lived in the apartment was out walking their dog. thank goodness for small miracles!
