for the past several weeks i’ve been digging around through old family information and google and doing research on my family tree.  for some odd reason, when i made that big fuss about confederate history month a few weeks back here on the blog, i became curious.  am i the direct descendent of a civil war solder?  and if so, what side?

i’ve been curious about that for years and i knew that my grandfather kept meticulous genealogical records and so i used that combined with the power of the internet to get my answers.

thanks to innovations like google books, i stumbled onto some amazingly detailed information about my bloodline and the civil war.  to top things all off, i headed up to my grandma’s house yesterday and quizzed her about what she knew about our family’s background.  she’s 89 and despite her memory fading over the years, she recalled some pretty crazy stories.

she also shared with me a book of tintypes.  actual tintypes of my family members during that time.  it was absolutely incredible.  these names i’d read about in my research suddenly came to life in actual photographs.  i couldn’t believe it.

so anyway, i’ve gotta take some time to get my research together and i’ll be making a few posts over the next several days sorta detailing the stories of these people.

hopefully you guys find it interesting!  let’s just say this blog might be a little heavy on the “civil war nerd shit” category for the next few days.
