so, the cosmos have spoken.  i was not supposed to buy that camera.
just one week after getting my new $1000+ toy, i started hearing a weird noise on the passenger side of my car.  turns out, i need a whole bunch of stuff replaced in my front-end, costing a total of $1300.
buzz, your car.  woof.
so… here’s the situation i’m in.  my car, a 2002 honda civic, has lived a long full life.  it’s got 142,000 miles on it and it’s generally been a pretty great car.  but as you can see by the mileage, i’m heading into that territory where car repairs start getting more and more expensive and you kinda have to start weighing the cost of repairs vs. the cost of buying a new car.  not to mention, the kelly blue book value right now on my car is somewhere around $3000.
fortunately, i’ve been kinda thinking this day would come, so i was already expecting to buy a new car sometime in the next two years.  the thing is, i was just hoping it might be closer to the end of those two years than right now.
so now i’m in this weird limbo where i gotta make some pretty intense life decisions.
i’ve been looking at cars and prices and seeing what is even feasible at this point.
of course, i did what any 20-something in our generation would do… i called my parents.  sadly, the response i was hoping for - “the answer is clear!  of course, you should ____________.” turned out to be a lot more like “hmmm… that’s a tough one.  hmmmmm.”
thanks mom and dad.
so i’m looking around, pricing stuff out, debating whether i can add a car payment to my life’s expenditures, and generally stalling.  fortunately, my car is drivable at the moment, so i’m not fucked or anything.  but i will need to make a move sometime in the next month or so.
any advice?
