Anonymous asked: how did the idea to go to iceland get in your head? from your posts it looks like the most horrificaly awful wet dank frigic place to be. why would anyone want to vacation there?
Okay, yeah. Iceland IS a little weird for a vacation spot, but it all depends on what you’re into.
I’m definitely not the “sit on the beach for a week” type of vacation person. I’m also someone who prefers to be cold than hot, so as you can imagine, there’s some appeal in a trip to a place where I can wear a hoodie all the time.
The weather for our trip was split about 50/50 between beautiful sunny days and icy cold snowy days. It was actually exactly what I had hoped for. The mountains, waterfalls, and landscapes look even more surreal and beautiful when covered in snow. It was definitely a little bit colder than we’d expected for that time of year, but fortunately, we’d prepared for the worst and it all worked out okay. I did have to buy some gloves though. I can’t believe I forgot gloves.
As far as how it got in my head, you should check out the documentary about Sigur Ros / Iceland called Heima. I was already interested in visiting Iceland before I saw this documentary, but it officially made it a done deal. It captures the beauty of the country so perfectly.
