sleigh bells - crown on the ground

when i DJed the party in philly a few weekends back, some guy came up to me and requested that i play a song from sleigh bells.  i was lucky enough that my good friend and fellow dance party enthusiast brit had educated me on them a few weeks prior.

the only problem is that all their songs that were posted to the internet were horribly distorted.

i said to the guy, “dude, i totally wanted to play them tonight, but i couldn’t find an mp3 that was high-quality enough.  they were distorted all to shit.”

and then the guy looks at me and says “no!  it’s supposed to be that way.”

i didn’t really know what to say.  i said, “well…… that sucks!”

because this song is clearly fucking awesome.  underneath the ridiculously maxed out levels and distortion, it’s clearly a fun party song and i could see people loving this.  but i can’t play it!  it sounds like shit on my computer speakers.  it’s going to sound ten times shittier when played in a bar at loud volume.

so, this is an open blog letter to sleigh bells.  it’s cool, dudes.  i think i get what you’re doing.  i guess it’s ironic that it’s distorted all to hell.  maybe this is some kind of artistic statement or whatever, but goddamnit, give me something i can play at a party that doesn’t sound like total shit.

thank you.
