civil war expo follow-up

i’d like to offer up an apology for not following up on my trip saturday to the civil war expo here in richmond.  after hyping it up so much, the truth is that it was kind of a letdown.
the ladies of richmond might have already figured this out, as they didn’t see me galavanting around town in a pimped out civil war military jacket.  instead it was just my boring old hoodie.  business as usual.
the truth is, the civil war show was okay.. but it was more like a flea market.  except everything is REALLY fucking old and REALLY fucking expensive.  they focused a lot more on relics as opposed to replicas.  i was hoping there’d be folks hawking uniforms, hats, and other replica items to what i assumed would be a big re-enactor crowd.
there were, in fact, quite a few re-enectment groups promoting themselves.  i’m not gonna lie, i grabbed some brochures.  but for the most part, i spent the afternoon staring at uniform buttons, old muskets, and calvary swords.  all priced to sell for thousands of dollars.  noooo thank you.
some of the cooler items were collections of letters from civil war soldiers, along with small pocket diaries.  there were also some great collections of tin types of soldiers.  all in all, really cool stuff.  but in the end, not really what i’d been hoping for.
so, if i really want to rock epic civil war jacket fashion, i’m going to have to buck up and buy this one from dolce and gabbana.  at only $1,475, it’s a little bit cheaper than buying an actual musket from the civil war.
or, maybe i’ll just stick to my hoodie.
