ROBOT E. LEE:  PART 1 (a synopsis of a future screenplay - copyright phil 2009) The year is 1865.  March.  The Civil War has been raging on for nearly four years. The seige of Petersburg has been ongoing for nearly eight long months.  General Ulysses S. Grant is tightening his hold on General Lee’s forces that protect Petersburg, and more importantly, Richmond to the north.  The months of trench warfare and terrible conditions have taken their toll.  Lee’s numbers have dwindled to 50,000 soldiers - with many lost in battle, desertion, and disease.  Grant and Lee’s forces are locked in a stalemate, but Grant’s superior numbers and supplies will soon overpower Lee. Something must be done. Unknown to the Union forces encroaching on Richmond, nor to President Lincoln himself, Confederate scientists and engineers have been hard at work at the Tredegar Iron Works, setting things in motion to create the ultimate superweapon that will change the course of the war forever. A STEAM-POWERED TIME MACHINE. With only weeks left before the inevitable fall of Richmond, the Confederate government realizes the fragile nature of their experiment.  The machine is so close to being ready - but it has not been tested.  There simply is not enough time.  And yet, the time machine could not fall into enemy hands.  Time was running out. The plan: A confederate operative would travel 500 years into the future, study 500 years of advanced military history and obtain as much futuristic weapons technology as possible, and return to 1865 to unleash total destruction and end the war. However, there is a problem.  Who could be trusted with such a task? The decision is left to Robert E. Lee to decide.  He must choose one of his bravest generals to travel into the future and complete this important task.  Plagued by indecision, Lee decides he can not afford the loss of any of his generals should the experiment not work.  Late in the night, Lee steals away to the Tredegar Iron Works and fires up the time machine. Lee writes a goodbye letter to his wife Mary and his six children, and enters the time machine. He steps out into the year 2365 AD. TO BE CONTINUED…… READ PART 2 and PART 3!
