so last night i attended a networking event for the SMCRVA (social media club of richmond).  the social media club is a large group of mostly young people in their 20s-30s who are using social media in various ways both personally and professionally.  the group gets together once a month to network and to give presentations on different aspects of social media.

i went to meet cute girls.

okay, that’s not totally true.

okay, it’s slightly true.

anyway.

my expectations were totally exceeded.  the people there were really fun and friendly - none of the shmoozing that tends to go on at other networking-type events.  people were really excited about a lot of the same things i currently dork out about (blogs, twitter, foursquare).  so it was just a chance to get together with a bunch of like-minded people, drink beer, and have fun.  i met a lot of great people that i look forward to bumping into again.

after the networking event, everyone headed over to new york deli where it was KARAOKE night.  this was totally unexpected.  i quickly rallied and did duets with both john johnson and the karaoke host.  it was pretty magical.
