i totally meant to post about the runtur on the blog.

sorry for the overwhelming amount of blog content coming out of iceland.  i’m sorta treating this as a journal, so i don’t forget all the stuff i did.

the runtur is basically iceland’s word for bar-hopping.  the nightlife here is pretty wild.  lots of people roaming the street in the late-night hours.

clayton and i started our runtur with some warm-up drinks here in the hotel room.  we drank two viking beers and already felt a little drunk, or was that sleep deprivation kicking in?  regardless, we hit the streets around 11:00.

our first stop was damon albarn from blur’s bar called kaffibarinn.  i like blur, but i did not really like kaffibarinn.  if it had a richmond counterpart, it would be avalon.  too chill for our tastes.

we headed further into the city center to find more action.  we found it.  i have no idea what the bar was called, but we walked in and they were playing lady gaga and guns’n’roses.  done deal.  it was hilarious to see the people not speak a word of english all night but then know all the words to american pop songs.  clayton and i danced the night away, probably spent too much on alcohol, and had an all-around good time.  we got home around 2:00, not wanting to stay out too late for our early morning wake-up call.

tonight, we’ll be doing it all over again, although tonight there’s a special show going on that we’re going to catch.  it’s this musician called hudson mohawke who plays pretty awesome electro/dance music.  he’s from the UK, but he’s playing with a bunch of icelandic DJs.  it’s the big closing event of iceland’s rettir round-up music festival.  since we’re too early to catch the iceland airwaves festival, we thought we’d do this and get a little taste.

if anyone wants to pre-game with clayton and i, we’re going to start drinking around 6:00pm ET (10pm here).  you might still have time to catch a flight!  look out for drunken tweets around 11pm ET (3am here).
