man oh man.  what a difference a solid 7 hours (well maybe 6) of sleep makes.

we woke up this morning bright and early at 8:30 to go deep sea fishing.  but when we showed up at the location, the sign said it was closed.  the same company also does puffin-watching tours and the sign said “the puffins have left iceland”.  all in all, it was a very sad little booth.

we said fuck it, we’ll go deep sea fishing next weekend with a different company.  so off we went to find the giant indoor flea market that happens every saturday.  it was WEIRD.  so much weird stuff for sale.  clayton and i found the awesome vinyl dude who had a ton of crazy stuff.  we picked up a morrissey record and an old leonard cohen record.  good times.

after all that shopping, we thought it was a good idea to get some lunch.  we hit up a place called icelandic fish & chips which was highly recommended.  i will also recommend it as the fish (and the chips) were delicious.  most of you know, i am NOT a seafood guy, but i set aside a lot of my predispositions and decided to just go for it.  i’m glad i did.  the fried haddock i had pretty amazing.

after that, we went off in search of more record stores.  we found the amazing 12 Tonar and i sat and listened to icelandic artists on headphones for about an hour while sipping on coffee.  i discovered this really great artist called hjaltalin and bought the album “sleepdrunk seasons”.  i definitely hadn’t heard of him (them?) before i got here, but the album was prominently featured at every record store we’ve been in since we got here, so i’m glad i checked it out.

clayton is definitely losing steam as he is napping on the couch across from me right now, but we’re about to rally and go to the national museum of iceland to learn some history.

the weather is so crazy here.  one minute it’s sunny, the next it’s hailing, then it’s pouring rain, and it’s sunny again.  having an umbrella here is TOTALLY useless as there are gail force winds more or less all the time.  i love the cold weather, but sometimes when i’m walking down the street and it’s pouring rain and i’m getting soaked, i have to mentally repeat the phrase “remember, you CHOSE to come here.”  haha.  the good thing is, nothing lasts more than 15-20 minutes and then you have all new weather to enjoy.
