so, very recently, diana, billy and i started watching mad men.  we got a hold of the season 1 dvd, and everyone had been raving about it, so we figured we’d better jump on the pop cultural bandwagon.  we’re about 5 episodes in and i definitely like it, but i’m not sure what to think half the time.

first off, i’m not trying to make myself out to be some modern enlightened feminist man here, but the misogyny is SO OVER THE TOP.  it totally makes me feel uncomfortable.  and i get it… by shedding light on the real misogyny of that time period and by making it even more over the top in a satirical way, they’re sort of making a feminist statement in a weird backwards way.  but still, i just can’t help shake the fact that there’s some asshats watching it who are like “damn right!  the way it oughta be!”  ugh.  gives me chills.

my OTHER beef with the show just occurred last night.  it takes a few episodes to get everyone straight.  don draper - he’s the badass genius copywriter.  that salvatore guy - he’s the closeted gay art director.  white-haired guy is the boss.  but who the fuck are all these shmarmy douchebag hangers on?  specifically that fucking asshole pete campbell.

you mean to tell me the douchebaggiest backstabbing fuckface on the show has my job?  basically, according to mad men, my job description is to take clients out for drinks, get them hookers (if they want them), and continually try to undermine the genius copywriter who everyone loves.
