as i mentioned earlier, i woke up saturday and impulsively decided to drive to brooklyn to hang out with my awesome friend mari.

the trip itself was amazing.  i know most people don’t relish six hour drives, but for some reason, i was craving a roadtrip and the serenity that comes along with being by yourself for six hours listening to music.  95 north always brings back a lot of memories of touring days.  it was a pretty nice drive.

i arrived in brooklyn around 6:30.  i went out for a delicious thai dinner with mari and then we joined up with all her roommates and friends for an epic birthday bar crawl for casey.  i bumped into richmond/nyc internet celebrity alex hidalgo, had midnight shots at a weird bar where a middle-aged woman was playing songs on a casio keyboard, and ended up ultimately at the infamous black rabbit.

late in the night:

sunday we recovered from our hangovers and went to a delicious outdoor brunch.  mari and i headed off to coney island, since i’d never seen it before.  upon arriving, it was exactly as mari had described: totally sketchy, but weirdly amazing.  unfortunately, the august heat was coming on strong at this point and walking around on the boardwalk quickly turned miserable.  we retreated into the shade and caught a ride on the amazing wonder wheel.  everyone says to ride the cyclone, but mari told me it gave serious whiplash and i decided to spend my $8 elsewhere.

the day was quickly slipping away and it was almost time for me to hit the road.  i had planned to stay later and attend casey’s epic star trek themed bingo night, but it was clear that i was not finding my second wind and my drive home was going to be difficult as it is.  instead of pushing my luck, i decided to cut out a little early and stay true to my 24 hours in brooklyn instead of trying to make it 26 or 28.  i hit the road around 6:00, and began the long drive home.

my drive home was uneventful and completely unworthy of being blogged about.  the trip, however, was so worth it.  it was good to get out of town and do something impulsive and have a great time.

thanks brooklyn!  you guys made for one hell of a weekend.
