last night i drove up to DC to see the amazing SEAS play a show at solly’s tavern.
the trip served multiple purposes. first and foremost, i really wanted to see ben and the dudes play. it’s been really exciting to see this start as a project with songs posted online over the course of the past few years and then inevitably grow into a live band that is still growing and finding itself and its sound. it’s an exciting thing. my first time seeing ben play live was with the full band at the black cat, so seeing a more stripped-down/acoustic version was really cool for me. it was also really fun to watch peter (my former bandmate in olympia) play a lot of the lead parts and hear him in the context of this different musical beast.
in addition to that, i just needed to GET OUT OF TOWN. for weeks i’d been itching to take a trip this past weekend, and the trip didn’t materialize, so better late than never, i suppose. it was great to go up there and see my DC friends that i never see enough of and see my brother as well. my one regret is that i didn’t get to spend a little more time with my brother. i always have this problem in DC.. i find my attention getting pulled in various directions and realize at the end of the night that i’ve neglected someone more than i should have. clayton, i don’t think you really read this - but if you do, sorry bud. come down to richmond and we’ll make a night of it. i owe you another beer.
the night went by in a flash. by the time i had to leave, i felt like the night was just getting started. but alas, i had a 6:00am wakeup call waiting for me.
here i am at work now, exhausted. in desperate need of an early bedtime tonight. but i’m also really glad i got to see my friends and hang out. i’m also really excited about seas and all the great things ahead with that band.
good shit is happening.
