Mari (aka whiskeyandgoatsmilk) responded to my last post with a request for Lisa Loeb.
Who am I to deny these things?
how to cheer up your girlfriend from far away.
lauren’s mood is directly related to the amount of snowfall in philly. 6 inches or more and she’s like godzilla. and i can’t blame her. the city doesn’t plow her neighborhood, so she’s largely left to fend for herself.
today she spent an hour digging her car out. it was miserable. i felt so bad! if we lived in the same city, i’d surprise her with lunch or...

Great article about the internet’s role in teaching future generations about the Civil War and how we need to be mindful of revisionist history.

Michael C. Hall to star in HBO Mini-series
(via:jessthevagabond:mchdaily)
Michael C. Hall has been cast to play Ulysses S. Grant in a forthcoming eight-part Civil War mini-series entitled To Appomattox on HBO. Production is set to begin this spring and an air date will be announced later in 2011. Michael is expected to start filming sometime during the Dexter hiatus until Dexter starts filming again in May.

monroe park.
i’m hoping this blog post sparks a little bit of discussion.
in my immediate neighborhood, there’s a park called monroe park. it’s surrounded by the campus of VCU and is one of the few green spaces left in my part of the city. it’s a nice park with a lot of trees, but it’s also the place in the city with the highest population of homeless people. multiple...
My Life As Of Late: Why I'm Not Blogging →
i read this article at chicagobusiness.com about people stepping away from blogging as a platform and couldn’t help but think “yes. yes. and yes.”
if you’re a consistent reader of this blog, of which i know there are a handful, you’ll know that my posting amount has about dropped in spades. my actual written content even more so.
it’s a multitude of things. ...
Richmond Proper: On Negative Nancies →
Richmond royalty, etiquette columnist, and dear friend Tess has some advice that I think resonates across Richmond, the internet, and beyond. Stop being a negbomb for like five minutes.
In this darkest, coldest, and most depressing stretch of the winter, it seems particularly appropriate to discuss negativity. The “woe is me” outlook tends to creep over each of us at one point or another,...
Ok Cupid: The Mathematics of Beauty →
If you’re a little chubby, play it up. If you have a big nose, play it up. If you have a weird snaggletooth, play it up: statistically, the guys who don’t like it can only help you, and the ones who do like it will be all the more excited.
I love it when Ok Cupid gets all math-nerdy on us. This article basically summarizes the findings when Ok Cupid mined their wealth of data to...

I can’t help but sorta look forward to this. Maybe the dead will spontaneously come back to life online, like ISOs in Tron.

A great read. Thanks for sharing.
Facebook Apocalypse Rumor Terrifies Internet →
Phil’s blog - now with twice the Facebook ranting!
This article is unbelievable. The Weekly World News tabloid reported that Facebook was shutting down along with its usual articles about Batboy, alien invasion, etc.
So then yesterday “Is facebook shutting down” became the 14th most popular Google search.
Are you making the connection here between Facebook users and people...

HOW TO MEET THE GIRL OF YOUR DREAMS (FOOLPROOF)
Buy a falconer’s glove.
Approach the girl you like wearing the falconers glove.
Ask her “Excuse me, have you seen a falcon fly by here?”
Look up to the sky, hopeful/sad.
If she says “No,” look distraught and ask her if she wouldn’t mind helping…
Dallas Clayton: Genius.
Facebook + Goldman Sachs: Here’s What It Will Mean →
Okay, so … as far as being a person who understands IPOs and stock offerings and this recent Goldman Sachs/Facebook deal, I’m afraid I come up short. I got a C on all this stuff in college.
But is anyone involved in this whole thing remembering how Myspace was so hugely popular and then Rupert Murdoch bought it for $580 million and it’s been down the shitter ever since? ...
resolutions.
i kinda get annoyed with resolutions. i always make it a point not to set any. i feel like i can just do the things i want to do and get better at the things i want to get better at without making an official list of things that will ultimately end in me disappointed that i didn’t accomplish something.
and yet, it’s weird. this time of year just sorta naturally sets itself up for...
